Happy Friday Families!

Just a reminder that the SCIP Fancy Dance will be held tomorrow, 3/16 from 4-6 PM. Brownsville area families are invited to get dressed up and join in on this night of fun, Fancy dancing! The night will feature music, games, finger food, and drinks, professional pictures and more. All adults in attendance must be with a child. Middle/High schoolers are welcome to attend with their families and/or volunteer to help at the dance.

Flag Retirement Ceremony March 20th

Flag retirement is the term used to define the proper, dignified way of destroying United States flags that are old, worn, frayed and/or faded. The United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8k states- " The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."

Albert Bridge School and Trail Life Troop 0316 invites you to join us for a Flag Retirement Ceremony Wednesday March 20 at 7:50 am.

Student Led Conferences

Student Led Conferences are coming up starting on Monday, March 25th. Teachers will be sending home conference schedules soon. To support conferences, Thursday, March 28th students will be dismissed at noon and there will be no school on Friday, March 29th.

You may be wondering what student-led conferences are and what is the power of them?

Student-led conferences are a time where students share their learning with families.

What is the power of student led conferences?

Students have greater engagement and ownership of their learning.

They help students have voice and choice over what they want to represent for their academic, social, and emotional growth.

They help students understand the purpose of their work.

Students learn to be reflective about their work and progress toward learning.

They help build reflection skills and encourage ongoing practice of those skills.

Student-led conferences help students develop a sense of what their strengths are as learners.

Student-led conferences support development in Portrait of a Graduate competencies, including critical thinking, perseverance, communication, and integrity.

What does the research say about student led conferences?

Researchers determined that both parents and students consistently felt that student-led conferences allowed the student to take ownership of their academic achievements.

The most impactful research in education comes from John Hattie (2018), Hattie suggests that student driven self assessment is among the most powerful tools to support students in developing a sense of ownership and learning.

Supporting our students in developing their sense of competence and belonging are also among the most important components of developing self driven learners. This work comes from Ryan and Deci (2018) and is foundational to our self determined learning approach.

Brownsville Base Camp

Brownsville Base Camp, a new summer camp located in Brownsville is now open for registration. Give your child the gift of the great outdoors this summer with our play-based, educational summer camp. Camp will be run primarily out of ABS and will utilize the Ascutney Outdoors Center. Camp registration is open for weeks June 8-August 2nd. Campers can register for 1, 2, 3, or all 4 weeks. The expectation is that school continues after the meal. As always, if you need to take your child earlier than normal dismissal you need to tell your child's teacher.
