ABS Newsletter: Week of February 26th

Hello ABS Families,

We have had a good week back from break with unusually warm temps, except yesterday! This week we practiced our Clear the Halls drill where we practice remaining in our rooms or area until the "All Clear" is announced.

Maple Celebration! Thursday, March 21st

Hello ABS Families and Community,

We are inviting you to join us for our Maple Unit Celebration taking place on Thursday, March 21st at 12:00 and an evening event, for those who can not make the daytime event at 5:30.

This will be a great time for us, as a community to come together to celebrate the learning and collaboration that goes into our place based work.

The day event will be a meal (with maple syrup) and some displays for your children to talk about with you. The evening will be the same displays with a sugar on snow (shaved ice, ice cream and maple syrup).

We hope to see you all at one or the other event!

Please check for ticks!

As soon as the snow melts students are drawn to rolling and playing on the hill. I haven’t seen any ticks yet but it’s a good practice to make sure your child is checking for ticks daily. We are outside every day so getting into a routine is helpful.

Fingers crossed we don’t see any for a while.

Sugaring Season has begun!

Classes have tapped some of our maple trees, and each class is learning about an aspect of the maple sugaring process from tree identification, to the history of sugaring in West Windsor, to the science behind what makes sap run.

Thank you to volunteers that have signed up to support this hands on learning experience.

Visit the Montshire Museum

Many classes have been studying, or will be studying the solar system. Visit the Montshire on March 9th from 10am-5pm for Astronomy Day, our annual celebration of all things celestial. This year includes programming for children, adults, and families including astronomical arts and crafts, hands-on space demonstrations, and lightning talks featuring graduate students from the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Dartmouth College. There will be opportunities throughout the day to meet face-to-face with astronomers to learn more about them and their research. We also welcome back the Cowasuck Band of the Pennacook-Abenaki People, who will share stellar stories, followed by an indigenous art activity.
