We have a short week next week due to Student Led Conferences. Students will be dismissed Thursday, 3/28 at 12:00 and there is no school on Friday, 3/28. If you haven't scheduled a conference, please do so as soon as possible.
This weekend 3 teams from ABS will travel to Norwich University to compete in the VT Destination Imagination Challenge competition. Teams have been practicing STEAM challenges all year and will now present their projects. If you see the following in the hall, wish them luck! FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY – March 20, 2024 Trail Life USA Troop 0316, Brownsville, VT & Albert Bridge School Students
Flag retirement ceremonies hold a profound significance in American culture. They are not just a procedure for disposing of a worn-out flag; they are a respectful tribute to an emblem that symbolizes the nation's values, history, and sacrifices. A flag retirement ceremony is conducted to ensure that Old Glory, as the American flag is affectionately known, is honored in its final moments. This process reflects the deep respect and patriotism felt towards the flag, acknowledging that even as it reaches the end of its service, it deserves a dignified and respectful conclusion.
On snowy March 20 at 7:50 a.m., Brownsville Trail Life Troop 0316 demonstrated for Albert Bridge School students the proper and respectful way to retire Old Glory. The ceremony took place at the fire pit adjacent to the Brownsville Community Church & its pavilion in Tribute Park.
Trail Life Troop 0316 is sponsored by the Brownsville Community Church.
The event was well attended in spite of the bitter cold and the early hour.
Student Led Conferences
Student Led Conferences are coming up starting on Monday, March 25th. Teachers will be sending home conference schedules soon. To support conferences, Thursday, March 28th students will be dismissed at noon and there will be no school on Friday, March 29th.

What does the research say about student led conferences?
Researchers determined that both parents and students consistently felt that student-led conferences allowed the student to take ownership of their academic achievements.
The most impactful research in education comes from John Hattie (2018), Hattie suggests that student driven self assessment is among the most powerful tools to support students in developing a sense of ownership and learning.
Supporting our students in developing their sense of competence and belonging are also among the most important components of developing self driven learners. This work comes from Ryan and Deci (2018) and is foundational to our self determined learning approach.

Brownsville Base Camp
Brownsville Base Camp, a new summer camp located in Brownsville is now open for registration. Give your child the gift of the great outdoors this summer with our play-based, educational summer camp. Camp will be run primarily out of ABS and will utilize the Ascutney Outdoors Center. Camp registration is open for weeks July 8-August 2nd. Campers can register for 1, 2, 3, or all 4 weeks.
